Built by tax people, for tax people , over 35 years in the business.
Unity Tax Partners exists to do one thing: give independent tax offices the same professional platform the national brands run, without the fee stack that eats their clients' refunds. Here's who's behind it, and why preparers stay.
Thirty-five years inside independent tax.
Unity isn't a tech startup that discovered tax software last year. It's built on 35 years inside independent tax preparation — real offices, real preparers, real seasons. That experience is why the model works the way it does: every decision is made from the preparer's side of the desk, because that's where this company came from.
Over the past decade, Unity has served thousands of independent preparers. And they stay — nearly 95% renew year after year. In an industry where switching is a hassle and trust is earned slowly, that retention is the clearest proof that the deal is real and the support is there when a preparer needs it.
The people building Unity.

Robert Kluba
Robert has spent nearly 35 years inside independent tax preparation — as a preparer, an office owner, and a builder of tax businesses. In the 1990s he founded ExpressTax and grew it to nearly 500 franchise locations across the country before selling the company to H&R Block in 2007. That experience — running an office, running a network, and watching what the national fee stack does to independent preparers — is what led him to start Unity Tax Partners in 2011.
In 2013, Robert introduced the flat-fee model that still defines Unity today: one $20 per accepted return, no junk fees pulled from the taxpayer's refund. It was a deliberate move against the industry norm, and it's the reason preparers stay year after year.
Outside the business, Robert is a husband, a father, and a longtime supporter of independent tax offices — the people who built this industry and keep it running in their communities.
Omar Kandah
Omar Kandah has spent more than two decades helping independent tax professionals build and scale profitable businesses. As Partner at Unity Tax Partners, he leads product, technology, growth, and strategic operations for a national network of thousands of preparers across 700+ offices.
He entered the industry in 2002 and joined ExpressTax — then owned by H&R Block — in 2006, where he became the company's top franchise sales performer. In 2012 he joined Community Income Tax, built on a flat-fee model designed to eliminate the industry's hidden fees, and became a partner in 2014. There he led the shift to digital onboarding, cloud infrastructure, and national digital marketing, growing the company from under 25,000 returns a year to more than 150,000.
His mission hasn't changed: kill hidden fees, increase transparency, and give tax professionals the technology and support to win. Today he's helping lead the evolution into Unity Tax Partners.

Two principles.
Only two.
A flat fee for the preparer.
One $20 per accepted return covers the whole platform. You control your pricing and keep what you earn.
A protected refund for the taxpayer.
No junk fees pulled from your client's refund — the only fee on the return is your prep fee.
The company you're building with
For a lot of preparers, this isn't just software — it's the business they've built and want to keep growing. Unity is the partner for that: stable, experienced, and invested in the long-term success of every office in the network, with ongoing training and business guidance from senior leadership.
